My world
Anyone who knows me, knows I was never the farm girl my dad set out for me to be. I was in 4-H showing pigs, and cattle. I got out of that by showing up to the show ring before parade of champions in flip flops to walk my pig around. I was signed up for BB gun club. My dad claims he pulled me out after I started shooting the rafters in the armory. I then was talked into hunters safety course with the idea I'd tag along hunting of course. HA. I was in different sports. The sport I was the worst at was track. We won't talk about that. I did well at school. My mom always said I'd be dangerous if I'd work with my full potential instead of doing what was expected to get by. I have failed at many things. The one thing I've always been good at is talking & hair--- so why not make a career of it?
Hair school was for me.
I truly believe if your passionate about something, pursue it.
I love what Oprah said, "Do what you have to do, until you can do what you want to do."
Cherry Petenbrink is my idol and mentor, graduating from A Stewart's cosmetology school location just like myself, she has dedicated her sweat, blood, & tears into becoming an educated stylist. I was lucky to meet her when I was still in beauty school. She has been a stylist for movies, celebs, and owns her own studio salon in California. I asked for the opportunity to assist her in Vegas at a hair show. I was so nervous and scared that I might not be able to do something she asked me too, but I went anyways.
Sometimes, wait actually all the time, do it. Lock yourself out of that box-- your comfort zone.
I learned so much from assisting her and left inspired.
I just assisted for Charlie Price this weekend at Denver Fashion Week. Another huge name in the industry. Also worked with Lisa Vann (pinch me, that happened?)
I didn't wait for that opportunity either, I bugged Charlie via social media until he said yes :). Being a middle child was good for something. Challenges are our opportunities. I was crazy to think I could move to a city coming from a rural, South Dakota town. I was crazy to become a hairstylist. I was crazy to think I could meet industry leaders. Maybe we all need to be a little crazy. Opportunity awaits. Although I'm no where near where I want to be. I continue loving each day as a hairstylist.
I hope to keep everyone inspired and hopefully make some hair how-to's in the future.
Here's a window into my messy-creative-Choas.
